Braun Professional Care Model Toothbrush Battery Repair and Replacement Instruction

  • Battery Selection Guide: The original NiMH battery varies in two lengths depending on models. Most models use 48 mm long Ni-MH battery while a few models (typically sold outside of USA) use 42 mm long NiMH battery. They have the same cylindrical diameter. Both are available in our Battery Store and shown in the picture below. Measure the length of your old battery first and look for the exact length in our stores. Please don't ask if it is the right length or not as we can't tell without seeing the interior of your handle. The tab on the negative terminal is offset on purpose, matching the original battery, in order to fit the circuit board easily. Different from all the other sellers of toothbrush battery, we test all batteries for correct charging and discharging before shipping. It is VERY UNLIKELY a new battery you receive from us is defective unless it is physically damaged in shipping. If your handle doesn't work after battery replacement, PLEASE check the charging to make sure battery is charged correctly before use. Some models are known to have the battery indicator showing low prematurely. As a bonus, instruction on solving this issue is provided free with battery.

Question has been asked whether the 48 mm long battery (for the benefit of higher capacity) can be used if the original battery is only 42 mm long. The answer is YES, though not recommended. Oral-B uses shorter battery at smaller capacity to reduce cost. But you can choose a better battery. The battery space is regulated by a spring and there is enough space for a longer battery when the spring is compressed further. As always, be careful and do not damage battery's plastic wrapper at the positive terminal when you install the spring back.

Cheaper NiCd battery, available in our store, is compatible with the original NiMH. However, due to lower capacity and NiCd memory effect, we recommend it only for cost reason.

  • Step 7: This step is only required if the tab is wider than 2mm. Take your new battery and use scissors to trim the tabs to fit into the holes on the circuit board. We sell battery with narrower 2mm wide tabs so you don't need to trim the tabs if soldering holes are clear of solder.

  • Step 8: Seat new battery in the space with correct polarity. The battery has marking of + on the cylindrical wall. Alternatively, the positive side of the battery is indicated by the depressed ring around that end of the battery. Solder both tabs to the circuit board and cut the excessive tab if needed. Put the spring back between the battery and motor. To avoid short-circuited, take care not to damage battery's plastic cover by the spring edge.
  • Step 9: Install LCD screen with the T6 screw. If the display is messed up, place the handle on charger for seconds and it should come back. If the display is blank, charge the handle for a few minutes until voltage is high enough to turn the LCD on. Slide the handle back into the housing until it clicks. Place the bottom cover back and secure it with the small plastic screw.

  • Step 10: Reinstall plastic ring. Method 1: suggested by Dave H. (Thank You Dave!): "Putting a coating of dish wash liquid for lubrication on the top of the rubber case and push on a 9 mm socket placed over the ring allowed me to seat in position." Method 2: use caution to prevent injuries. First, put the plastic ring in its place. Then, hold one side with your thumb while pressing the other side with a flat screwdriver. The seal should click into place.
  • Troubleshooting Help: If handle doesn't charge after battery replacement, check the charger stand (it should be slightly warm to touch) or the charging circuit (open circuit charging voltage should be above 3.3 Volt); If handle charges but LCD display goes blank as soon as handle is removed from charger stand, check the battery terminal soldering for connectivity. We verify every battery for correct charging and correct discharging before shipping so there is no worry on battery.
